Kingsman Hockey Jersey Design

Kingsman Secret Service logos by davesgeekyhockeyKingsman: The Secret Service is the best film I’ve seen this year (and that includes Avengers 2). For the main logo I used “the boar standing on a pie slice*” from the signet ring (middle), with Guinness Beer-style text for the team name, and three crowns to represent King Arthur.

Here’s a bonus design (inspired by Harry Hart’s tie):

Before you ask I did play with pinstripes but those don’t work for hockey (only baseball and basketball).

Not sure if we’ll offer either of these at the moment, so I’m just going to gauge reaction for now.

*I honestly don’t know what the boar is standing on. It could be a pie slice, a fireplace bellow, or a whoopie cushion. I have no idea.

Arstotzka Hockey Jersey Design 2015 by davesgeekyideas

I’d like to think that Arstotzka has a national hockey team, one made up of army personnel (much like Russia’s Red Army squad), playing against rivals from Obristan and Kolechia. These are all fictional countries from the game Papers, Please.

The jersey is Arstotzka’s flag, with design cues from several Russian national jerseys. The M.O.S. seal stands for Ministry of Sport. I couldn’t work in the motto Glory To Arstotzka anywhere, so I might have to come back and revisit this design down the road.

I don’t know if there’d be enough interest to offer this design (my efforts to recommend the game always fall flat), but if there is maybe I can ask the game’s creator, Lucas Pope, if he’d like to green-light a limited run.

Inside Out Fog Horns hockey jersey by davesgeekyhockey

This is 100% Pixar’s design from the film Inside Out, I only added the name and numbers (the jersey was blank in the film). I haven’t seen the film yet, but I do like the design, which appears to pay tribute to the Mighty Ducks logo from the films.

I also dig the seafoam green, which isn’t exactly a common color in sports design.

No plans to offer this, because the massive merchandise machine that is Disney will have this covered in some form. At least, I would hope so.

Raising Arizona hockey jersey by davesgeekyideas

If this were ever offered I’d probably make the shoulder patches optional, because your mom probably loves you and taught you to spell “didn’t” with an apostrophe.

Raising Arizona is the first Coen film design I’ve posted. I keep meaning to do one for Fargo, as that one screams hockey, so hopefully I’ll do that sooner than later.

Dinobots Jurassic Park G1 by Dave Delisle

I posted a Dinobots hockey jersey on the other blog 3 or 4 years ago, I didn’t migrate it over here because I lost the files. Anyways, here’s a Jurassic Park (Jeep) mashup, with a couple of unused Ingen-style logos to boot.

This one was designed to be offered, hence the lack of Autobot logos. You can sign-up for it here.

Corner Gas Hockey Jersey by davesgeekyideas

I’m Canadian (sorry), so once in awhile I’m compelled to show off my hoser-ness with a design that screams CANADA. This jersey celebrates the TV show Corner Gas and its Saskatchewan setting.

The ‘S’ patch pays tribute to the Roughriders (here’s another take), and the Dog River patch is a riff on the shield from Saskatchewan’s provincial flag. The jersey layout is based on the gas station uniform.

No plans to offer this one, just wanted to branch out with something different. Before you ask: no, I don’t watch Trailer Park Boys or Lost Girl, so I couldn’t tackle either of those.

Flying Hellfish Hockey Jersey Design

Since I’ve started this blog 3 years ago, I’ve been playing with the idea of doing a military-themed design that would have no shoulder patches on it, allowing those in the service to affix their rank patches instead. Thought I’d give that idea a shot here.

At the same time, jerseys with plain white shoulder yokes like very clean and old-school, so it’s not like the design is suffering from a lack of shoulder patches. A ‘key’ patch was added to the front neck though.

Should this be offered? Let me know what you think via comments and liking/tweeting.

Skeletor And He-Man Hockey Jersey Designs

He-Man/Skeletor hockey jerseys by davesgeekyideasA pair of new He-Man designs for your eyeballs today!  Thought I’d do something different and base the characters on their toys rather than the animation models, and I think it looks rather striking (at least for Skeletor).

He-Man/Skeletor hockey jerseys by davesgeekyideas

The team names, Overlords of Destruction and Defenders of Grayskull, are placeholder for the MOTU logo, which I removed because gradient logos look bad on sports designs in general. ALSO, the team names are perfect for rock bands, but I have already called dibs on both (and I don’t even sing or play an instrument).

I don’t know if these can be offered at the moment, we’ll see.

If I got to do an elevator pitch for a new He-Man cartoon, it would be a comedy in which all conflicts are now decided by professional wrestling. It would have the same kind of “awkward bro” humor that Seth Rogen and Jonah Hill champion in their films, with lots of over-the-top smack talk. Purists are gonna hate, but there’s an absurdity to both the original cartoon and the WWE, so I feel combining them would deliver a lot of comedic gold.

Shadow Of Mordor Hockey Jersey Design

Dunedain Rangers by davesgeekyideas

Deep breath: this is a design based on a video game that was based on some films that were based on some books. I’ve been toying with a Rangers Of The North or Dúnedain Rangers design for a long time, and was able to finally seal the deal with the iconography found in Shadow of Mordor.

The main shield and back neck patch are icons from the game’s menu, the Crown of Gondor patch was something the main character wore. The team name being the Rangers, I felt the main logo should homage the New York Rangers in some fashion (apologies to Boston and Philly fans).

I really loved playing Mordor. Went into that game cold (I just swing a sword around, right?) and was pleasantly surprised again and again. It did more to rekindle my interest in Middle-Earth than those Hobbit films. Sigh.

X-Files logo hockey jersey design 2015 by davesgeekyideas

The X-Files is coming back this January, so I thought I’d throw this together. Originally the design had the show’s circle logo on the front, but I decided to do a Jolly Roger-ish logo instead, if only to liven things up a bit.

Whether this gets offered with the Jolly Roger or vanilla logo remains to be seen. Please tweet, like, or comment to let me know what you think.

BTTF2 Miami Baseball Jersey Design by davesgeekideas

It’s playoff time, and is there a geekier/timely nod to the 2015 World Series than Back to the Future 2‘s depiction of a Cubs win over Miami? So I thought I’d draw up a uniform for the fictional Miami team (the Gators?), which as many of you know preceded the MLB’s expansion into Florida with the Marlins and Rays in the mid-90’s.

Just so this screams BTTF2, the front of the jersey is essentially the same as the billboard image: the Alligator mascot standing in front of the word Miami. I had to fix the right leg and ditch the painted look of the logo. MLB and World Series patches were added to mark the occasion. The Gator is wearing a blue hat, so figuring the players do too, I added blue trim to the sleeves. It’s a weird color scheme.

No plans to release this, but you can get your hands on a Pepsi Perfect soon, if you can afford it.

House Stark Hockey Jersey by davesgeekyideas

Here is the 7th edition of the popular Direwolves design. Geeky Jerseys wanted to do a “silver variant” of the design (like the gold variant for Voltron last year), so I came up with this.

New stripes this time, so hopefully folks who avoided the previous 6 designs because of their LA Kings look will be on board for this one. New shoulder patches and a back patch that is a stylized “W”/crown for Westeros. The back patch is my riff on Adidas, so if we ever did football kits that would be the go-to logo.

You can grab it now until the end of November (arrives late Jan/early Feb 2016):

Right now the plan is to make this a one-time special edition (like the aforementioned Voltron jersey), and revert to 6.0, but plans change so we’ll see what happens here.

Darkwing Mighty Ducks by Davesgeekyideas

It’s a Disney sort of day, isn’t it? First up is a Darkwing Duck jersey, done in the style of the Mighty Ducks (movie). Probably the most interesting way I could frame the character. This was the winner of a fan poll on the Facebook page.

Next up is a design I posted on said Facebook page earlier this year for Kim Possible:

Kim Possible logo by davesgeekyideas

The “S” stands for Spies, or Students. Like the Darkwing Duck jersey, I’m not content to throw a character on a jersey, I need to find an interesting angle for the design. Using a solitary letter for a team logo is a hockey staple, glad to use it here.

No plans to offer these, they are just for fun.

Fallout 4 Hockey Jersey Design

Fallout 4 Hockey Jersey by davesgeekyideas

My one reservation for doing a Fallout hockey jersey is that darn vertical stripe on the front — I don’t like it! It works for baseball, but not so much for hockey. You can see it with the stripe here. There’s an unused Bombers logo that was to sit on the side of the missile, but it looked better without.

Despite the hiccups that Fallout 4 has endured during its launch week, I want to applaud Bethesda for the short 6 month announcement-to-release time frame. I wish all big games/movies took this approach. I’ve been hearing about Batman V. Superman for almost 2.5 years now and I just can’t be bothered with it anymore.

No current plans for this design, but if Geeky Jerseys wants it they’ll let me know.

Point Break Ex-Presidents by Dave's Geeky Hockey

Originally you could see Bodhi’s eyes within the mask, but they were too unnerving so I removed them. A cheeky President Seal goes on the shoulders, my take on the USA Hockey logo goes on the back.

Pretty weird, huh? Yeah it’s not “geeky” per se, but I’ve always been a big fan of the original film (it’s sad I have to make that distinction now). It’s just a perfect movie. The great cast, action, and oh-so rich dialogue that Aaron Sorkin can only dream of writing: “Back off, Warchild…seriously.”

Don’t know if there’s enough interest in this one, but I enjoyed drawing it up for my own amusement.

Ron Swanson Hockey Jersey Design Part 1

Ron Swanson Hockey Jersey by Dave Delisle

This one is based on the Pawnee Rangers episode from Parks and Recreation (Season 4, episode 4, also known as the Treat Yo Self episode), except I heavily modified the Rangers logo to include Ron himself. The ‘Swanson’ shield was shown at the end of the episode.

The drab grey uniforms the Rangers wore did not make for an interesting jersey, so I went with green instead. You’ll be forgiven for thinking this was a military jersey, the Swanson shield certainly helped push me in that direction.

Part 2 is a breakfast-themed design for Ron Swanson. I’m also thinking of doing one for the Pawnee Goddesses.

Captain-3-2016-Dave-Delisle-davesgeekyhockey

New Captain and Shellhead designs, just in time for my most-anticipated film of the year. Captain gets a few new additions: the star and numbers are now lined with silver; two all-new patches that celebrate his team and teammates; and lastly blue stripes have been added to the cuffs. The main blue is also darker.

Shellhead jersey design by Dave Delisle

Shellhead gets a radical makeover, with a jersey layout similar to the NHL’s Penguins and Senators. New patches throughout. Black is added to the color scheme. The numbers and letters are silver, to match the main logo.

You can sign-up for Captain here, and Shellhead here.

BB-8 Star Wars hockey jersey by Dave Delisle

UPDATE: I’m my own worst critic, so I heavily updated the above jersey. Why so much black? So BB-8 and the text DROIDS could register better. Original post as follows:

When I saw episode VII in December, I was 99.9% sure this little droid was flipping the bird with his lighter-thingy. In my theater the whole audience roared with laughter, plus the scene totally called for it — BB-8 was coerced into doing something he didn’t want to do.

Alas, Disney has made it official: the droid was merely returning a thumbs-up. Well, in my mind BB-8 will always be the badass robot who’s not taking any of your crap, mister.

Not available for now, this design will be. Cloudy the future is.

Here’s a bonus version:

Donkey Kong Arcade Cabinet by Dave's Geeky Hockey

Thought I’d do a design that is a homage to the original Donkey Kong arcade cabinet from 1981 (35 years ago!). All of the logos are updated versions of art found on the cabinet. Donkey Kong himself is a mix of the current Kong with the 1981 original and the 1982 Donkey Kong Jr. version (the teeth mostly). There’s a “DK” on the front neck too, to match his necktie.

Ideally I’d go overboard with stripes and colors to match the arcade cabinet, but I like to keep Geeky Jerseys’ production methods in mind when creating designs. That means a more conventional approach towards layout and trying to limit the number of colors.

Not sure if this is going to be popular enough to be offered, but I enjoyed drawing it up.

Dread Pirates by Dave Delisle

About 3 years ago I posted a Dread Pirates design, which I since deleted because I felt it was too plain and simple. Thought I’d give it another go, this time with an injection of color and new patch logos for both the ship and the mantra belonging to these Pirates.

Here is a mockup:
